Hardscapes FAQs
-
Q: How do I know which type of custom patio, fireplace, fire pit, custom outdoor kitchen, or retaining wall is right for me?
A: Choosing the right custom patio, fire feature, outdoor kitchen, or retaining wall depends on your property layout, how you plan to use the space, and your style preferences. McMillion Pool starts with a professional survey and creates custom site plans tailored to your needs and local building codes. We offer a wide range of materials like natural stone, pavers, and concrete coatings and provide expert guidance on selecting what works best for your project. Our goal for you is to create a beautiful and functional space.
-
Q: What materials do you use for your Hardscape Services?
A: McMillion Pool focuses on improving the function and form of your outdoor space. Our approach will focus on better utilization of space, making it an aesthetically pleasing and functional space. We offer a multitude of stone materials and can help you determine which stone is right for your needs. Some of our hardscapes include flagstone, marble, travertine, permeable or concrete pavers, tile, bluestone, and concrete. We also offer concrete coatings known as cool deck or sun deck. McMillion Pool also offers custom retaining walls for your steeply sloped property for homeowners in and around the Nashville area. Utilizing segmental/modular wall blocks, natural stone, and brick veneers, McMillion Pool employs civil and structural engineers to build a retaining wall that local codes will approve for your project.
-
Q: What does the Hardscape Design process look like working with McMillion Pool Company?
A: When working with McMillion Pool, licensed professionals will handle every step of the process. If you want more usable space to control erosion or simply wish to enhance the look of your landscape design, we are here to help. Initially, a licensed landscape architect and/or surveyor will survey your property. Using the survey information, our design team will prepare the site plans stamped by a civil engineer, and these plans will be submitted to your local building codes department.
Hardscapes Materials:
- Natural Stone Patios: Typically made of Bluestone, Limestone, Crab Orchard Flag Stone, and even Jerusalem Stone.
- Pavers: Limestone and manuafactured pavers.
- Concrete: We pour a layer of concrete around the pool to a thickness of 4 inches. The concrete pool deck/patio is coated with sun deck or cool deck concrete coatings, which will be cool to the touch on hot summer days.
Aboveground Hardscapes:
- Pool Fences: We offer code-compliant pool fences. They come in a variety of styles and materials for your needs and wants. These not only offer visual appeal but also provide safety for family, friends, and children.
- Composite Wood Decks: Durable pool decking that can stand up to nature’s elements while remaining stylish. This type of decking is perfect for barefoot walking as it does not cause splinters.
- Rock Waterfalls: These bring out the natural element of your outdoor space. They create a comfortable and peaceful environment, similar to a resort, while helping circulate water throughout the pool.

Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common queries about our pool services and offerings.
There is an old adage that a contractor is only as good as his subcontractors. We have found that most swimming pool contractors will use up to 7 different companies or subcontractors to build your pool. Most pool builders in Nashville hire a separate subcontractor for each of the following specialties: digging the pool, placing the rebar/steel, installing pool plumbing and filter system, shooting the shotcrete, installing water line tile, plastering the pool, and installing the coping. At McMillion we provide all phases of building your pool with our own in house crew. This improves quality and enables your pool to be built much faster.

Many high volume pool builders will show you beautiful pools built by their "A" crew and then send a "C" crew out to build your pool. At McMillion Pool, we are not a high volume builder. Our crew builds between 10 and 20 pools a year. We have the same crew of technicians on all 7 phases of construction on every job. We have greater quality control which translates years of enjoyment for our clients, instead of cracked stone and tile on brand new pools that we see built by many of our competitors.
A common problem on improperly built swimming pools is efflorescence. This is caused by improper construction of the waterline tile or raised stone around the pool. It is caused when moisture seeps in to the concrete and forces calcium out from behind your stone. We have encountered the problem on countless newer pools in the Nashville area, sometimes on pools less than 3 years old.
Regularly check and clean pool filters, monitor water levels, and address any issues promptly to avoid greater damage.
We offer free consultations and estimates for any pool project. Our team will assess your pool, discuss your ideas, and provide an estimate based on your preferences and the scope of the project.
The duration varies on the scope of the project. Minor renovations may take weeks, while larger projects could take up to several months.
The easiest way to get started is to contact us and set up a time to discuss your ideas for your new pool.
The installation could take anywhere from 3 to 10 days.
